They explore nineteenth-century technology, entertainment, travel, and crafts through hands-on activities in a unique and historic setting.

Summer Camp FAQ

Q. May I drop my child off early?

A. No, there is no extended care available. Children may be dropped off a maximum of 10 minutes before camp starts.

Q. What is the latest I can pick up my child from camp?

A. Please plan to pick up your child no later than 3:10 pm each day.

Q. Where do I drop-off and pick-up my camper?

A. Campers should be dropped off and picked up at the barn across the stream behind Compass Inn Museum. You will check your camper in and out with a member of the Museum’s Summer Camp Team

Q. What should my child bring to camp?

A. Lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray. They should wear clothes that can get dirty, as they will be outside. Please, no flip flops.

Q. What should my child leave home?

A. All electronic devices and any personal belongings that they do not want to lose. Compass Inn Museum cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

Q. What will my child have for lunch?

A. Campers must bring a lunch from home. Please provide lunches that do not require refrigeration or re-heating. Compass Inn Museum does not supply snacks to children unless it is part of a specific activity.

Q. What is our weather policy?

A. Camp will not be cancelled due to inclement weather; activities will be adjusted for the safety of the children. Campers should be prepared to be outside for most of the day. Refunds cannot be provided for children who do not show up to camp because of weather-related issues.

Q. How many children can register for the camp?

A. There are 15 spots available. Sign up today to reserve your child’s spot. Our small teacher to camper ratio supports advanced projects and unique activities. Our teachers are passionate and knowledgeable educators that are dedicated to making each camp informational and fun for all campers. Most classes also have a Volunteer Camp Assistant.

Q. What is Compass Inn Museum’s discipline policy?

A. Parents are required to read and sign the Compass Inn Museum Camp terms and conditions, which include behavior expectations and discipline guidelines, upon registration.

Discipline will be handled on a case by case basis, but generally if a child misbehaves we will handle the situation in this manner:

  1. The first time a rule is broken, or a child misbehaves, the teacher will issue a warning to the child.

  2. After the second occurrence, the Program Coordinator will speak to the child and parents will be notified.

  3. If there is a third occurrence, the parents will be called and asked to pick their child up. They will not be able to return to camp that week. No refunds will be given for children that are asked to leave camp.

*No bullying, or behavior that results in the harm of another person, will be tolerated. In this case, the child may be asked to leave after the first incident. There will be NO REFUNDS for missed days due to disciplinary infractions.*

Q. What if my child takes medications?

A. Only medications that are prescribed by a physician or necessary to treat a disability are allowed at camp. If your child needs to take medications during camp, you must notify LVHS at least 10 business days prior to the first day of camp. All approved medications must be given to the program coordinator on Monday morning in the original container. All medications will be stored in a secure location until they need to be taken. It is up to you, and your child, to communicate with the program coordinator when he/she needs to take those medications.

Q. What if my child has allergies?

A. Please make sure to list all allergies on the required Health History portion of the permission form so we can do our best to keep your child safe. This form can be found on your camper’s. If your child has an Epi-pen, please communicate with the program coordinator, as noted above. If your child has a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction during camp, 911 will be called immediately and parents and guardians will be notified.

Q. What if I need to cancel?

A. Cancellations made at least one month prior to the first day of camp will receive a full (100%) refund. Cancellations made less than one month but at least two weeks prior will receive 50% refund. Any cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the first day of camp will receive no refund.

Q. What do I do if I have a question about camp?

A. If you have any further questions about camp, please call 724-238-4983.
