Living History Weekend: Laughlintown in 1812 with a Ship's Company

Step back in time on the historic grounds of Compass Inn Museum to see what was happening in Laughlintown during 1812. Interact with the men and women of Ship’s Company, a reenactment unit that portrays the naval contractor system used to supply the US Navy during the War of 1812, highlighting the roles of early American businesswomen, tailors, seamstresses, sailmakers, brewers, millers, and others who lived during the early 1800s.

Ship’s Company’s is a Baltimore and Washington D.C.-based living history group that dedicates themselves to interpreting the history of the United States Navy. Their core areas of focus include Navy sailors, Marines, and civilian naval contractors during the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. The goal of this event is to help visitors of all ages understand the importance of the craftsmen, laborers, and sailors that helped keep our young nation safe and thriving on the water through interaction and demonstration led by professional living historians.

The Living History Weekend also includes tours of the historic Compass Inn and outbuildings, as well as cooking and blacksmithing demonstrations, at no extra charge. General admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (62+), $10 for youth (6-18), and free for children 5 & younger. Tickets can be purchased on-site on the day of the event.
