Learn to weave on a floor loom! Every workshop in this series covers a different technique, and after every class (except the very first, which deals with set-up) you will go home with your very own handwoven “mug rug” measuring just over 5x5 inches. If you attend multiple classes, you will end up with a coordinating set. In every session, you can choose between several color options and two patterns—one easier and one more difficult—in order to accommodate weavers with different levels of experience.
All workshops will be held in the Barnhart Room at Compass Inn Museum. Classes will last approximately 3 hours, and they are limited to 3 students. All materials included.
** Denotes a class that is particularly beginner-friendly (but suitable for any level).
If all classes are filled, please email Emily Barth at ebarth@compassinn.org for additional class opportunities.
March 5
Weft-Faced Weaving**, 9 am to 12 pm
Navajo rugs and blankets are a good example of “weft-faced” weaving, where the weft threads are packed so densely that they completely cover the background warp threads. Learn how to create interesting patterns with this method while keeping the footwork simple. Click here to sign up!
Boundweave “On Opposites”, 1 pm to 4 pm
The term 'boundweave' typically refers to weft-faced weaving on four or more shafts. 'On opposites' refers to a 2-color method of weaving twill where, after every row of your main color, you will cover exactly the opposite threads with your contrasting color. If that sounds too complex, don’t worry—the directions are easy to follow, even if you don’t want to delve into the theory behind it. Click here to sign up!
